THE BOMBING OF GERNIKA, 75th ANNIVERSARY

On the 26th April, 1937, the city town of Gernika (Biscay) was bombed by the Condor Legion (German), following General Franco's advice. It was market day and the town was busy. It was a massacre against civilians.
Spain was involved in a civil war, Republicans and Franco's followers. In the Basque provinces, the front was in Elgeta (Intxorta)
Later, Pablo Picasso painted the famous "Gernika", a large painting which became the symbol of the cruelty of war and a message of peace.
